Recipe: Dreamsicle Shake

Updated: Nov 7, 2020

I'll admit...I am not a huge fan of orange-flavored drinks and foods. I love oranges, the fruit. But when it comes to other foods, it's just not my thing. However, after reading Light From Other Stars by Erika Swyler, I knew an orange-flavored dessert was necessary. You can read my review of the book here!

I got this recipe from The Slow Roasted Italian because it was easy and quick and didn't require a ton of ingredients! It's also a healthier option, compared to ones that require ice cream. It's creamy and thick and just the right amount of orange to be fresh and bright.

Ingredients:

  • 1 c. International Delight Sugar Free French Vanilla creamer

  • 2 c. store bought orange juice, frozen into ice cubes

  • Sugar free whipped cream

  • Fresh orange slices, optional

Instructions:

  1. Combine creamer and orange juice cubes in a blender, use pusher or scrape down sides until mixture is of shake consistency.  Add additional creamer or milk if you need to thin it out more.

  2. Pour about 3 ounces of shake into the bottom of an 8 ounce glass.  Add a dollop of whipped cream.  Add about 3 ounces more of shake, and then add another dollop of whipped cream.  Give shake a light stir to swirl whipped cream and shake.  Add 2 ounces of shake and top off with a dollop of whipped cream and a fresh orange slice.

The original blog also had some good tips:

  1. If you would like your shakes to appear more orange, add a few drops of orange food coloring.

  2. If you don't have time to freeze the orange juice, you can use 2 cups of ice cubes in your mixture. Be aware that the flavor will be more mild due to the addition of ice.

Cheers!
